Dear Tyler Parents,
Welcome back and congratulations to a great start to the 2009-2010 school year.
The theme for the up-coming school year is: “Super Tomcats have the power to make a difference”. The theme addresses and signifies Tyler’s commitment in encouraging our students to be leaders in the school in academics and to always demonstrate the highest expectations of good citizenship.
Our “Meet and Greet” was a huge success and it was very exciting to feel the positive and enthusiastic energy that our students had for coming back to school. As many of you may already know, Tyler Elementary achieved many great accomplishments during the 2008 -2009 school year, including earning the Virginia Index of Performance Award and attaining significant increases in our preliminary SOL student achievement data. The Tyler Staff and I look forward to working with you and your child(ren) and building on our current successes.
During the first weeks of school, all students will be participating in fire drills and one hazardous weather drill. One of our school goals is provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students and to reinforce this goal we will practice evacuation and safety procedures on a regular basis. We also have a visitor sign in system for all parents and family members. It is very important that all visitors report to the main office and be prepared to provide your driver’s license or identification prior to entering the building.
Our school is also taking many steps to monitor the novel influenza A H1N1 virus this school year. Our instructional and custodial staff is taking part in all of the recommended precautions to prevent and respond to the virus during the school year. Please read our Superintendent’s letter regarding the H1N1 virus and steps parents can take as precautionary measures. This letter is included in our first day packet for students and also available on our school website at http://tyleres.schools.pwcs.edu/.
Please make note of our Tyler “Back to School Nights” on September 22nd(Pre-Kindergarten – 2nd Grades) and 24th (3rd – 5th Grades) at 7 PM. During the “Back to School Nights” you will be provided with information regarding our school programs and your child’s teacher will provide a description and background information pertaining to classroom procedures and the curriculum.
Thank you for your on-going support of Tyler’s vision and your child’s education. We look forward to a fantastic school year and hope to see you at our “Back to School Nights”.
Sincerely
Matthew Phythian Jennifer Perilla
